# SetLanguage()

> Show Encore's copy in a language the player picked in your game, instead of the device language.

Overrides the device language for Encore copy.

## Signature

```csharp theme={null}
public static void SetLanguage(string tag)
```

## Parameters

| Name | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `tag` | `string` | A BCP 47 language tag, such as `es` or `pt-BR` |

## Example

```csharp theme={null}
Encore.SetLanguage("pt-BR");
```

## Notes

* Throws `ArgumentException` when `tag` is null or empty. Any other invalid tag is logged and ignored, and the language already in effect stays.
* [`ClearLanguage()`](https://docs.encorekit.com/publishers/unity/sdk-reference/clear-language) goes back to the device language.
* How Encore picks the language, and what it translates, is on [Localization](https://docs.encorekit.com/publishers/concepts/localization.md).
